Keeping Your Computer Safe

From trojans to malware, hundreds of potential threats lurk out there that could easily compromise the security of your computer if you don’t take the necessary precautions.

However,
with some measures, these threats can be kept at bay or at least to a minimum.

The following are some helpful tips to help you keep your computer from harm’s way:

1.) Set up a firewall. Firewalls are
basically barriers that prevent unauthorized services from carrying out operations on your computer, at least not without your permission.

Having a firewall up means that you have control over what can and cannot run on your computer, as firewall options are usually
customizable.

2.) Do not open suspicious links that you may encounter either in emails, through IMs and social networks, or even randomly online.

You will know
if a link is suspicious usually just by looking at it; they are usually not related to anything you may receive from a particular person or service.

These links usually contain malware and viruses, so don’t click on them at all.

3.) The most important tip of all:
invest in a good antivirus. This is a must-do for any computer.

Different antivirus programs have different capabilities, so it’s best to choose one that many people trust with the security of their computer and has never let its users down.

Usually, a paid antivirus program is much better than a free one, as its virus database will most likely be bigger and more up-to-date, making it more reliable when it comes to prevention and detection of threats.
